ISKCON Cape Town

A Spiritual Oasis in the Mother City

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, Founder-Ācārya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), visited South Africa in October 1975. During his visit to Durban and Johannesburg, he inspired his followers to establish centres where the teachings of Lord Krishna could be shared with all. Today, the ISKCON Cape Town Temple stands as a vibrant testament to that vision.

Nestled in the peaceful suburb of Rondebosch, the ISKCON Cape Town Temple serves as a spiritual and cultural home for devotees, students, and visitors from across the Western Cape. The temple offers daily worship, kirtan, classes on the Bhagavad-gītā and Bhāgavatam, and hosts major Vaishnava festivals, including Janmāṣṭamī, Ratha Yātrā, and Gaura Pūrṇimā.

Every Sunday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the temple welcomes the public to the Sunday Love Feast, featuring uplifting devotional music, spiritual discussions, and a delicious vegetarian meal.

About Govinda’s Café

The Govinda’s Weekend Café, located within the temple grounds, is one of Cape Town’s hidden gems. It offers a variety of freshly prepared, wholesome vegetarian and vegan dishes inspired by traditional Vedic recipes. Visitors can enjoy prasādam (sanctified food) in a serene spiritual setting — a perfect blend of nourishment for both body and soul.

The Cape Town temple community is deeply engaged in outreach, university programs, and kirtan gatherings that share Krishna consciousness throughout the city and beyond.
